Food vendors and exhibitors put the finishing touches on their booths Wednesday as the Davis County Fair opened in west Farmington.
Fair Manager Don Sides said Wednesday was slow, as it usually is on opening day, but he expects the attendance to climb as the four-day event heads into the weekend.Vendors, exhibitors and the public have been complimentary about the work, including new sod and repaving a parking lot, that was done on the fairgrounds this year, Sides said.
"They're pretty pleased with it, as we all are," he said. "A lot of time energy and dollars went into it. The county commissioners have been really supportive."
Thursday is senior citizens day at the fair. Seniors will be transported to the fairgrounds from the county's three senior centers. The centers will also provide entertainment in the senior exhibit hall.
A highlight of Wednesday's fair was the team roping competition. Thursday, a junior rodeo starts at 6:30 p.m. in the fair's rodeo arena. Rodeos are scheduled Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m.
"We're expecting a good turnout for the rodeo, both in entrants and spectators. We'll fill the bleachers," said Sides.
Events at the fair on Thursday are the 4-H shooting competition at 6 p.m., the junior rodeo at 6:30 p.m., and the open youth dog and open youth pet shows at 8 p.m.
The entrants will be judged on their knowledge of their pet, its grooming, and general obedience.
Exhibit and commercial booths will remain open until 10 p.m. Thursday. On Friday and Saturday, they will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
