Actor Rod Steiger went before a Senate committee hearing and dramatically described his suicidal thoughts during a long bout with depression.
Steiger, whose voice broke at times Tuesday, said one scenario he considered was rowing out to sea in a small boat, climbing overboard, putting a gun to his mouth and shooting himself.Steiger won an Oscar in 1968 for his role as a bigoted Southern sheriff in the film "In the Heat of the Night," in which he co-starred with Sidney Poitier.
