Representatives of the Box Elder Wildlife Federation's Gun Range in Mantua met with Box Elder County commissioners recently to discuss finding a new location for the range.

According to range manager Al Smart, his organization has ownership of the present site as long as it is used as a gun range, but changes in Mantua in the past few years have resulted in pressure for the range to be moved elsewhere. Smart told commissioners that he would like any help possible in locating a suitable and safe site.Smart asked about the possibility of relocating on currently unused county land, if available. He added that the county would benefit from such a move because a new gun range would help train gun users and could cut gun-related vandalism.

Commissioners said that while no suitable county land appears to be available, they would look into a possible property trade if another site can be found.
