While the top-ranked Bingham Miners have managed to stay undefeated with a pair of one-point victories in the early season, the Mountain View girls basketball team seems to be playing the best ball in 5A.
Tuesday night the second-ranked Bruins shredded a pressure defense thrown at them en route to a 60-37 victory over Clearfield.Brandi Daniels paced Mountain View (5-0) with 18 points while teammate Amy Gentry added 13. The Bruins jumped out to an 18-3 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back. Only a 16-5 fourth quarter edge gave Clearfield (2-4) a respectable score.
"We basically came out and tried to play our game and do what we do best," Mountain View co-head coach Laura Romo said. "We handled the press and the pressure they gave our guards."
Jill Adams topped the Falcons in scoring with 18 points.

At Layton, Kristine Noel burned the nets for 31 points to help the Lancers take care of the Vikings. Christy McAtee added 17 for Layton (2-3) as it raced to a 20-8 lead and never looked back. Kristel Whitten scored 18 for Viewmont.
Northridge 58, Mountain Crest 41
At Northridge, Kate Bailey and Kelli Davis combined for 29 points to lead the Knights past the Mustangs. Jill Bodily paced Mountain Crest with 14 points.
Ogden 49, Roy 33
At Roy, the Tigers used big efforts in the first and third quarters to give them a win over the Royals. Jessica Carpenter scored 12 for Ogden (2-3) and teammate Ashley Sutton added 11. Jana Rasmussen led Roy with 12.
Weber 66, Bear River 42
At Weber, the Warriors played the role of the unkind host as they rolled over the fourth-ranked Bears. Bear River fell to 4-1 with the loss.
Hillcrest 51, Bonneville 41
At Bonneville, Amber Pehrson netted 17 points for the Huskies as they outlasted the Lakers. Kristin Smith added 13 points and 12 rebounds for Hillcrest (4-1).
Cottonwood 42, Hunter 36
At Cottonwood, the Colts picked up their fourth win of the season by squeezing past the Wolverines. Amy Thacker and Amanda Bigelow each scored 10 points for Cottonwood (4-2) while Angie Sheppick led Hunter (1-5) with 15.
Logan 66, Murray 37
At Logan, the Grizzlies scored 20 points in each of the last two quarters to run away from the Spartans. Holly Hansen and Jeremi Covington combined for 31 points for Logan (4-1) while Heidi Baird topped Murray with 10.
Bingham 53, Olympus 52
At Olympus, the top-ranked Miners eked out yet another close victory, this time against the Titans. Malinda Lynch scored the game-winning bucket for Bingham (5-0) on a rebound putback with two seconds left. Lynch finished with 16 points and eight rebounds while freshman Kristi Fehr netted 17 points, including five 3-pointers, for Olympus (2-3).
Skyline 46, Orem 41
At Skyline, the fourth-ranked Eagles capitalized on 12 Tiger turnovers in the final quarter to post another victory. Kelly Duckworth had 17 points and eight steals for Skyline (4-1).
Provo 60, Tooele 44
At Tooele, the Bulldogs evened their record for the first time this season by knocking off the Buffaloes. Lori Red tossed in a game-high 21 points for Provo (3-3) while teammate Yvonne Teuscher added 14.
Ben Lomond 48, Morgan 28
At Ben Lomond, the Scots outscored the Trojans 33-13 in the second half to cruise to a victory. Stacey Shipman paced Ben Lomond (4-1) with 19 points.
Brighton 46, East 41
At Brighton, the Bengals jumped out to a big first half lead and then held on to defeat the Leopards. East fell to 1-4 overall despite Charlotte Norman's 14 points.
Box Elder 59, Cyprus 54
At Cyprus, the Bees pulled out a close road win and kept the Pirates winless. Melissa Braegger led a balanced attack for Box Elder (2-3) with 12 points and ruined a 21-point effort by Cammie Baker of Cyprus (0-4).
Jordan 51, Granger 35
At Granger, the Beetdiggers came from behind to defeat the Lancers. Jordan (2-1) hit 21 of 25 free throw attempts that put the game out of reach. Granger fell to 1-3 with the loss.
Pleasant Grove 65, Lehi 63
At Lehi, the Pioneers and Vikings went down to the wire before Jessica Johnsen sank two free throws for Pleasant Grove's third win. The Vikings' Tirzah Church led all scorers with 19 points and two three-pointers.
North Summit 38, Park City 36
At North Summit, the Braves staved off a late rally to defeat the Miners. Elizabeth Jaussi led all scorers with 16 points for North Summit (3-2). Brittany McQuay and Brooke Earnshaw each had 10 for Park City.
Sky View 72, Star Valley, Wyo. 49
At Star Valley, the top-ranked Bobcats rolled to another win with 22 points from Jessica Sparrow. Taffy Smart added 14 more for Sky View, who improves to 6-0 in 4A.
Payson 66, Wasatch 61
At Payson, Julie Hansen poured in 30 points to help the third-ranked Lions of 4A drop the third-ranked Wasps of 3A. Angela Massey chipped in with 13 points for Payson (4-0) while Christy Shepherd paced Wasatch (5-3) with 21.
Spanish Fork 50, Granite 34
At Spanish Fork, the Dons outscored the Farmers in every quarter on their way to a needed home victory. Rachael Reinschiissel led all scorers with 13 points for Spanish Fork (2-4).
Snow Canyon 54, Virgin Valley 25
At Virgin Valley, a third quarter 21-5 romp was the knockout punch from Snow Canyon as Jessica Jensen spilled in 11 points, joined by 10 points from Mandy Barton.
Union 61, Carbon 48
At Union, the Cougars used a 23-9 third quarter outburst to propel to victory over the Dinos. Union improved to 4-2 overall behind the 19-point attack of Jenni Nielson.
Richfield 54, Cedar City 52
At Richfield, the third-ranked Wildcats used the 27-point effort of Melissa Penney to lead them past the Redmen. Richfield improved to 7-1 overall. Janelle Romney led Cedar City with 15.
Juab 49, North Sevier 47
At North Sevier, the Wasps hung on in the final period to drop the third-ranked Wolves and improve to 2-1. Shadoe Shaheen paced North Sevier (2-3) with 13 points.
Whitehorse 47, Red Mesa 36
At Whitehorse, the Raiders used the 3-point shooting of Ophelia Joe to help them get past Red Mesa. Whitehorse improved to 2-3 overall.

At Monticello, the fifth-ranked Buckaroos fell to the visitors from Colorado despite 12 points from Tara Forrest in a fourth quarter comeback. Monticello now stands with a 1-3 overall record.

At Wendover, the Wildcats improved to 4-1 in region play by holding West Desert to single digit offense in each quarter. West Desert now drops to 1-1 in Region 14.
Waterford 38, Salt Lake Lutheran 35
At Salt Lake Lutheran, in a game that went down to the wire, the Wolves managed to pick up a road win over the Lynx. Heather Sneddon paced Waterford with 14 points.

At RHSM, Alli Miller scored 23 points and used her defensive skills to help the Winged Lions drop the Bulldogs. Alex Folias added 10 points, 16 rebounds and seven steals for Rowland Hall. Tiffany Quinn led Judge with 23.
