Ross Perot, who finished second in Utah in the 1992 presidential race, will speak Thursday at noon in the University of Utah's Olpin Union ballroom.
Perot, the Texas billionaire whose citizen action group is now forming a third political party in the United States, last visited Utah in April 1993. Then, he spoke to an overflow crowd in the Cottonwood High School auditorium.Perot and his supporters are now trying to get his new Reform Party certified in all 50 states - and they just met tough deadlines in California and Ohio. Perot supporters won't have a similar problem in Utah, which requires only 500 signatures of registered voters for a party to make the ballot.
Perot will speak Thursday about why a third political party is needed, upcoming federal budget negotiations, campaign finance reform and other items on America's political agenda. The meeting is free, and the public is invited.
