Quarterback Mark Rypien, the most valuable player of the 1991 Super Bowl, has signed a contract with the St. Louis Rams. Length and terms were not divulged.
Rypien, 32, played for the Cleveland Browns last season, mostly in a backup role to Vinny Testaverde. Rypien, who started three games, completed 59 of 127 passes for 694 yards and four touchdowns with three interceptions.Before last year, Rypien played seven seasons with the Washington Redskins. His best season was 1991, when he completed 249 of 421 passes for 3,564 yards and 28 touchdowns with 11 interceptions.
In Washington's 37-24 Super Bowl victory over Buffalo, Rypien passed for 294 yards and two TDs.
The Rams also announced the signing of running back Cleveland Gary, who played for them for five seasons before being released last year and signing with Miami.
