Pearl Jam, the grunge-rock band from Seattle, will not return to Salt Lake City for a makeup concert after all. The group announced Sunday it is canceling the remaining concerts on its 11-city tour this summer because of scheduling difficulties.
Tickets for 15 upcoming shows will be refunded, but details on refunds have not yet been announced. The tour cancellation announcement came Sunday, a day after the band played for more than 50,000 people in San Francisco. Pearl Jam's initial June 17 Utah concert at Wolf Mountain was rained out. Tickets for that show had been sold out within minutes through a special telephone offer.
The national cancellation is being blamed on Pearl Jam's feud with Ticketmaster. The group had planned its summer tour around cities that didn't use Ticketmaster because it had accused the ticket agency of price gouging.
Pearl Jam used the Philadelphia-based agency ETM instead. However, the decision to use ETM apparently led to the band's scheduling problems.
Besides Salt Lake City, Pearl Jam concerts in San Diego; Phoenix; Las Cruces, N.M.; Austin, Texas; New Orleans; Milwaukee; and Chicago are also canceled.
