Nearly 450 Utah farmers and ranchers have applied for Centennial Century Farm & Ranch designation during the first three months of this year.
A special committee will review the applications to ensure that the properties really are 100 years old. Those that qualify will receive a sign intended for permanent display at the farm. Awards ceremonies also are planned in each county as well as at this year's Utah State Centennial Fair. Some of the applications included colorful historic records and old-fashioned descriptions of the properties involved. The program will continue beyond the Centennial year to recognize farms or ranches that have been in continuous operation by a family, its descendants and in-laws for a full century.
