Honda Motor Co. on Wednesday said it plans to spend at least 5 billion yen ($45.9 million) to build an automobile plant in Turkey with Anadolu Endustri Holding AS.

The plant will begin producing Honda Civic four-door passenger cars in the fall of 1997, the Japanese automaker said.Construction will begin in July, and the facility will be operated by Anadolu Honda Otobilcilik AS, a joint venture Honda and Anadolu Endustri established two years ago.

The plant initially will produce about 30,000 vehicles a year. The cars are to be sold in Turkey and surrounding countries.
