BARRY A HAWK: The Atlanta Hawks signed former Georgia Tech guard Jon Barry to a one-year contract. Barry, a four-year veteran, averaged 4.6 points and 1.7 assists during three seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks and one with the Golden State Warriors.
PISTONS INK WILLIAMS: The Detroit Pistons signed Jerome Williams, their first-round draft pick and 26th overall, to a three-year contract. Williams, a 6-foot-9 forward from Georgetown, averaged 10.3 points and 8.8 rebounds as a senior last season.
HOUSTON SIGNS ELIE: Mario Elie, who became a free agent last month, signed a two-year deal with the Houston Rockets that could bring him up to $2.5 million per season.
BRUINS TAKE 2ND: The Utah Bruins, made up of some of the best 13-year-old basketball players in Utah, took second place at the National BCI Tournament this past weekend.
Utah lost to Arkansas by two points in overtime for the second-place finish at the New Orleans tourney.

GATORS TO HAVE SURGERY: After only two full practices in the 1996 college football season, two Florida Gators players will be undergoing knee surgery.
Sophomore defensive end Willie Cohens, a projected starter, was diagnosed Tuesday with a dislocated left kneecap. Cohens will have arthroscopic surgery Friday and is expected to miss two to three weeks.
Freshman defensive lineman Thaddeus Bullard will also have surgery Friday after tearing cartilage in his right knee during freshman workouts.
SEATTLE SETTLEMENT: Seattle Seahawks owner Ken Behring and former secretary Patricia Parker quietly settled a sexual harassment case after months of legal sparring.
It was the second lawsuit filed against the 68-year-old former used car salesman. In 1988, former employee and longtime mistress Cynthia Reid sued him for $19 million, saying he reneged on a promise to support her comfortably the rest of her life. That suit also was settled out of court.
WARRANT ISSUED FOR COPELAND: A judge issued an arrest warrant for Cincinnati Bengals defensive end John Copeland for missing a contempt hearing after failing to pay $82,000 in child support.
Gina Freeman, 28, alleges that Copeland, the Bengals' No. 1 draft pick in 1993 from Alabama, fathered her child, born Dec. 30, 1994.

NEW CHL TEAM: Nashville's new Central Hockey League team will be known as the Nashville Nighthawks. The team begins play this fall.
TORONTO SIGNING: The Toronto Maple Leafs signed veteran defenseman Greg Smyth on Tuesday. Smith, 30, accumulated 231 penalty minutes in just 41 games last year with the Los Angeles Ice Dogs of the International Hockey League.

PHILLIPS 66 MEET: Lenny Krazelburg, who finished fifth in the 200-meter backstroke at the Olympic trials, won the national title in 1:59.37 at the Phillips 66 championships.
Neil Walker won the 100-meter freestyle in 50.07 seconds, his first U.S. title. Misty Hyman took the 200 butterfly with a lifetime best of 2:10.95. Lea Loveless, a 1992 Olympian, captured the women's 200 backstroke in 2:12.11.
Annemieke McReynolds won her fourth U.S. title with a victory in the 200 breaststroke (2:29.71). Matt Hooper captured the 200 butterfly in 1:59.64, his third U.S. title.
Tom Wilkens won his first national title, the 200 breast (2:15.82). Liesl Kolbisen took the 100 freestyle (56.50), her first U.S. title.
Tennis
DU MAURIER OPEN: Boris Becker withdrew from next week's du Maurier Open on Tuesday, citing a wrist injury sustained at Wimbledon.
Becker ruptured a tendon in his right wrist at Wimbledon on a service return in a third-round match against qualifier Neville Godwin.
