Bryan Earl Kohler, 56, died of brain cancer March 19, 1997 at home in Riverside, CA.
Born June 9, 1940 in Heber City, Utah to Earl and Marie Fraughton Kohler. Married Susan Whitaker, December 21, 1960 in the Salt Lake Temple. Dr. Kohler was a world-renowned scientist, much honored for his work in physical chemistry. He enjoyed building houses, running marathons, and traveling. He lived abroad with his family in Holland and Germany. Bryan's boundless enthusiasm and keen wit were a constant inspiration to those around him.Among his achievements were: student body president and graduate, Wasatch High, 1958; B.S., University of Utah, 1962; Ph.D. and postdoctoral work, University of Chicago, 1967; postdoctoral work at California Institute of Technology, 1968. Bryan was a chemistry professor at Harvard University, Wesleyan University, and University of California, Riverside. He was honored as: Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Fellow, 1974; Visiting Fellow, 1979; Guggenheim Fellow, 1984-85; Visiting Scholar, the University of Utah, 1995; Fellow, American Physical Society, 1995. Bryan authored over 120 scientific publications and fostered the careers of many students.
Survived by : wife, Susan Kohler, of Riverside, California; children, Bern Kohler, Columbus, Ohio; Dylan Kohler, Los Angeles, California; Brynja Kohler, Brooklyn, New York; grandchildren, Maxwell Kohler and Campbell Kohler; father, Earl Kohler, Midway, Ut., brother James Kohler, Bountiful; sister, Mrs. David (Linda) Densley, Midway; 23 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday, 11 a.m. at Olpin Mortuary, Heber, City. Interment in the Midway Cemetery. There will not be any viewings.
