The Utah State Society Daughters of the American Revolution will hold its centennial conference Wednesday and Thursday, March 26 and 27, at the downtown Holiday Inn. Each chapter will have a table displaying charter history and accomplishments. Wednesday's luncheon speaker will be honorary state regent Alice Lafferty Astroth.
Special guest speaker for the Wednesday night centennial banquet will be Mrs. Charles Keil Kemper, national DAR president general. Mrs. Richard Wilson, Oregon state regent, and Mrs. Vincent Traffas, Kansas state regent, will also attend.The DAR Medal of Honor will be awarded to President George H. Emert of Utah State University, sponsored by the Bear River Chapter. The NSDAR History Award Medal will be given to Dr. Thomas Alexander of Brigham Young University, sponsored by the Princess Timpanogos Chapter.
On Thursday, the 1997 Outstanding History Teacher, Judy Dykman, will be honored and will address the group. Michelle Martindale will be recognized as Outstanding Youth Volunteer, and 1997 scholarship winner Becky Ann Turley will also be honored.
Chapter representatives are: Bear River Chapter (Logan), Winn Gardner regent; Bald Eagle (Cedar City), Diane Peveler; Golden Spike (Ogden), Helen Rabe; Mountain Ridge (Wasatch County), Janis McCoid; Princess Timpanogos (Salt Lake), Shirley Nelson; Salt Lake Valley, Cindy Toone; Uintah (Salt Lake), Lois Olson; Sego Lily (Bountiful), Irene Bywater; Wasatch Range (Utah County), Margaret Sanchez; and Color Country (St. George), Diane Tarbox.
Hostesses for the conference are from the Salt Lake Valley and Uintah DAR chapters.
