Kenneth Parry Burbidge Jr., the first president of Ballet West, a member of the University of Utah board of trustees and a longtime community activist, died Friday.
A Utah native and a graduate of East High School and the University of Utah, Mr. Burbidge, 68, earned a master's in business administration from the University of Southern California. During the Korean War, Mr. Burbidge rescued pilots behind enemy lines.He started his business career as a stockbroker and eventually became a senior vice president and manager of Dean Witter Reynolds. He retired in 1993.
He is survived by his wife, Sally; one son, Clark Rich; two daughters, Jill B. Wiscomb and Karin B. Cook; and 14 grandchildren.
Mr. Burbidge received a lung transplant at University Hospital in October 1995. His family said the generosity of the donor family added three years to Mr. Burbidge's life.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday in Salt Lake City.
