Our angel mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, Edith Jones Checketts passed away peacefully on April 2, 1999 of natural causes in Bountiful, Utah.

She was a gentle, gracious, and Christlike soul who devoted her life to her family. Her parents, siblings, children and grandchildren were the recipients of her full, and unconditional love. Of this there was never any question. She served faithfully in the LDS church, serving in many positions of teaching and leadership. However, it was her music that stirred the soul. She started playing the piano at the age of four and throughout her life she served as organist in her ward. In addition, she accompanied many guest soloists and choirs on both the piano and organ. Although she shared her talents at many meetings, funerals and numerous cultural functions,, her greatest thrill was sharing her wonderful talents with those who listened within the walls of her own home. She was a good neighbor and shared generously with flowers and fresh tomatoes from her beautiful gardens. She was often seen visiting an elderly friend or someone in need of comfort, sharing with them her sweet spirit and special love. Never judgmental or critical in any way, she truly embodied the teachings of the Savior throughout her life.Edith was born September 4, 1916, in Wellsville, Utah, the daughter of Howard and Ethel Jones. She was the second of five children. She attended school in the Wellsville and graduated from South Cache High School. After her graduation, she moved to Ogden, Utah and worked in various jobs until meeting the love of her life, Clyde A. Checketts. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple, May 8, 1946. Edith and Clyde spent the majority of their married life in Bountiful, Utah where they reared their family of three sons and two daughters.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Clyde; her brothers, Dee and Max; her son, Larry; and a grandson, Justin Hatch. Survivors include her two sisters, Mrs. Thomas (Adell) VanDrimmelen of Ogden; Mrs. John (Elaine) Larsen of Roy; her daughters, Mrs James E. (Judy) Hatch of Evanston, Wyoming; Mrs. Stanford K. (Janis) Madsen of Gilbert, Arizona; Mrs. Michael (Lisa) Royal of Farmington; and her sons, David (Deborah) of New Canaan, Connecticut and Daniel (Virginia) of North Salt Lake City. In addition there are 24 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Family and friends may call at the Russon Brothers Mortuary at 295 North Main Street, Bountiful, on Monday April 5th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. There will also be another viewing prior to the funeral services from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the chapel. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday April 6th at the Bountiful 2nd Ward Chapel, located at 650 South 200 East in Bountiful.
