John Frederick Adamson (JF, Fred), 51, died suddenly January 18, 2001 in a tragic automobile accident in Millcreek Canyon east of Salt Lake City.

Born in Salt Lake City April 19, 1949 to Norma and Jack Adamson. Fred was the oldest of five children. From an early age he showed an avid interest in cars, motorcycles, and the outdoors, briefly pursuing a career racing moto-cross and dirt bike events. He married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Sharp Dec 21, 1968 and they had two daughters, Jackie and Janet.

Fred was known to his many friends as a gentle intellectual giant. His interests span-ned a vast realm from religion and philosophy to the high tech world of the information age. His last 15 years were devoted to development and implementation of data compression and retrieval technology for which he has received national and international acclaim.

Fred is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughters, Jackie Adamson, Janet McArthur; two grandsons, Steven, Alex McArthur; father, Jack; sisters, Susan Sundwall, Amy Tingey; brothers, David, Andrew Adamson; and grandmother, Magarette Hicken. Preceded in death by his mother, Norma; and grandparents, Niff and Alta Hicken.
