NEW YORK (AP) — Paul Robert Carey, a member of the Securities and Exchange Commission and son of a former New York governor, died Thursday of cancer. He was 38.
Carey, a son of former New York Gov. Hugh Carey, had been an SEC commissioner since 1997. He was nominated for the post by President Clinton.
Carey had been northeast regional finance director for the 1992 Clinton-Gore campaign and special assistant to President Clinton for legislative affairs.

His duties included handling banking, financial services and securities matters, as well as some judicial selections.
