Jazz officials were prepared Tuesday to deal with the loss of veteran free agent big man Danny Manning, whom the franchise had hoped to re-sign.

Manning is about to join the Dallas Mavericks, said a Jazz source who called the Mavs' signing of the former University of Kansas star "imminent."

Manning, who signed with Utah as a free agent last season, opted out of the final year of his contract with the Jazz to seek a more-lucrative deal on the open market. The reserve forward-center was scheduled to make $1.32-million from Utah in the coming season.
