WEST VALLEY CITY — The E Center is a three-year-old financial horse, but it still needs a name.
It's called the E Center, but city leaders are still hopeful a corporate sponsor will shell out roughly $7 million for naming rights after they backed away from an offer by Coors Beer last year. The subject came up again in a recent City Council meeting.
While prospects are few, United Airlines will get to keep its name atop the roof — easy to spot from plane after plane flying over the E Center and into Salt Lake City International Airport.
City Manager John Patterson said people should not be confused about the United logo. The advertisement is part of a contract the airline has with the E Center, which includes leasing space inside.
United is fixing the weather-weary sign applied last year. If a corporate sponsor comes in, the logo comes down and a new one goes up. The sponsor would also receive a number of other considerations.
The E Center made $5.1 million from 200,000 people attending 42 concerts last year. Since it opened over three years ago, it has ranked nationally in the top 10 concert venues of its size in terms of number of shows, attendance and revenues, drawing over 2.4 million spectators for all types of events.
