LOS ANGELES — Jesse Marsch scored an early goal to give Chivas USA a 1-1 tie with the New England Revolution on Sunday in front of a sellout crowd of 92,516 at the Coliseum.
The match was the first of a doubleheader, with European champion FC Barcelona playing Mexico's CD Guadalajara in the second game.
The tie enabled Chivas USA (6-6-9) to move within two points of third place in Major League Soccer's Western Conference.
Marsch tied the score in the 22nd minute with his second goal of the season. Marsch ran into Sacha Kljestan's pass and fired a 22-yard shot that eluded diving goalkeeper Matt Reis and caromed off the left post. The Revolution (6-6-9) used Taylor Twellman's ninth goal of the season to take a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute.
The tie extended Chivas USA's winless streak to five games. New England hasn't won in three games.
New England midfielder Steve Ralston played in his 300th MLS game.
