Republican Utah House Speaker Greg Curtis barely won re-election by a 24-vote margin in our traditionally Republican district in Sandy. He was quoted attributing his near loss to Democrats moving into the district.

Actually, that is not true. His near loss is more accurately attributable to Republicans who crossed over to support his Democrat opponent, Jay Seegmiller. Why? Curtis talks a good fight for funding public schools but votes just the opposite. He pushed hard for millions of taxpayer dollars to be gifted for the benefit of Dave Checketts and his soccer stadium project.

His family and friends did not campaign door-to-door, as they did when he defeated Russ Cannon. Besides, Seegmiller cannot be painted with the same brush as the national Democrats, and he is not in the hip pocket of the elite, private school voucher crowd.
