TACOMA, Wash. — Joe Saunders pitched eight solid innings to lead the Salt Lake Bees to a 6-2 win over the Tacoma Rainiers on Sunday afternoon.
Saunders (1-1), in his third start for the Bees, allowed just three hits, two of which were solo homers, and fanned eight with no walks for the win. Alex Serrano worked a scoreless ninth inning to wrap up the game.
Salt Lake grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third on a solo shot by Nathan Haynes off former Angel and Stingers' pitcher Jake Woods (0-2). The Bees added two more in the fourth on a run-scoring double by Matt Brown and an RBI single by Haynes, who had three hits for the game. Brown would add two hits, which gives him five hits in the first three games of the series. The win gives Salt Lake a 3-3 record on the road trip with one game left tonight against the Rainiers.
