Authorities have detained a 23-year-old man who climbed a barbed-wire fence outside the Salt Lake City International Airport and entered a restricted area on Wednesday.

Airport officials said it appeared the man climbed a fence and was spotted near the west runway.

"He was immediately seen by airport police and apprehended," said Transportation Security Administration spokesman Dwayne Baird.

The man was being questioned Wednesday afternoon, but authorities had ruled out terrorism as a motive for the security breach. The runway was closed for a few minutes but there was no interruption to aircraft or flight service, airport operations director Randall Berg said.
