SALT LAKE CITY — Earl Watson will attend Utah Jazz training camp this week as a member of the team after signing a contract today.
The veteran point guard figures to provide Deron Williams relief off the bench along with Ronnie Price. The playmaker started 52 games in Indiana last season, when he averaged 7.8 points, 5.1 assists and 29.4 minutes in 79 total appearances.
In nine NBA seasons, Watson has averaged 7.4 points and 4.7 assists with Memphis, Denver, Seattle/Oklahoma City and the Pacers.
A 6-foot-1, 185-pounder, Watson remains UCLA's all-time leader in steals and minutes played.
Statistically, Watson's top NBA season was his 2007-08 campaign in Seattle where he averaged 10.7 points and 6.8 assists.
The Jazz, per policy, did not release terms of the deal.
It remains to be seen whether the blockbuster trade which would send Andrei Kirilenko to Denver and bring Boris Diaw and Quinton Ross to Utah will go down today.
Restricted free agent Kyrylo Fesenko's status also is uncertain as he awaits a possible contract offer from Houston.
The Jazz have media day on Monday and begin fall camp Tuesday at the Zions Bank Basketball Center.
