SALT LAKE CITY — A man convicted in the beating death of his half brother was sentenced Monday to spend up to 15 years in prison and serve another five years for obstruction of justice.
Christopher Blackhorse, 35, was given the consecutive prison terms by 3rd District Judge Randall Skanchy after he reached a plea agreement earlier this year.
Police found the badly beaten body of Daryl Antonio, 22, in December 2010 in the Kearns home he shared with Blackhorse. At first, Blackhorse said he had not seen his half brother the night he died, but he later told officers he punched the other man. A medical examiner said Antonio suffered injuries consistent with a prolonged beating.
Blackhorse initially was charged with first-degree felony murder, but that charge was reduced to manslaughter, a second-degree felony, in a plea deal reached in August.
