CHICAGO — Rodolfo Zelaya scored a goal in each half, and El Salvador kept its hopes of reaching the Gold Cup quarterfinals alive with a 6-1 rout of Cuba on Sunday.

Osael Romero, Lester Blanco, Arturo Alvarez and Eliseo Quintanilla also scored for El Salvador, which now has four points in Group A, the same as Costa Rica. The top two teams in each group advance, along with the two best third-place teams. Costa Rica was playing Mexico later Sunday, and El Tri has already secured a spot in the quarterfinals after winning its first two games.

Cuba finally got its first goal of the tournament when Jeniel Marquez scored in the 83rd minute. But it wasn't nearly enough for the Cubans, who exit the Gold Cup conceding the most goals (16) of any team. Grenada, which plays its final group game Monday, is next with 11 goals allowed.
