ST. GEORGE — The Washington County Republican Party chose Rep. Don Ipson to replace Sen. Steve Urquhart in the state Senate on Thursday.

At the same time, the party picked Walt Brooks, of St. George, to fill Ipson's seat in the House.

Ipson, who was elected to the House in 2008, was already running to replace Urquhart, R-St. George, who announced earlier this year that he would not seek re-election. Urquhart resigned Sept. 9.

Ipson, R-St. George, faces Democrat Dorothy Engelman in the November election.

Brooks, the owner of a pharmacy tracking software company, won the GOP primary election in Ipson's district in June. He is unopposed in the general election.
