The bells of Notre Dame will ring once again on the big screen as Disney adds “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” to its live-action lineup.

What’s happening: According to Deadline, Disney is tapping Tony-winning playwright David Henry Hwang to write a live-action, musical adaptation of “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” based on Disney’s animated film and the novel by Victor Hugo.

What we know:

  • Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz, who wrote the soundtrack for the original 1996 animated film, will be returning to compose music for the reboot, according to Deadline.
  • It’s rumored that Josh Gad, who played Lefou in Disney’s live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast, will be playing the lead role as Quasimodo, according to Deadline.
  • Gad is set to produce the “Hunchback” reboot, according to Screen Rant.
