The BYU football team has made a recent practice of committing and then signing several prospects who haven’t warranted a lot of recruiting attention, but on Saturday the Cougars received a commitment from an offensive line prospect who had entertained several scholarship offers.

Isaiah Tupou, a 6-foot-3, 316-pound offensive lineman from the Sacramento area, announced on Twitter his intention to sign with BYU as part of the 2020 class. Tupou cited offers from the likes of Utah, Arizona and UCLA before resting on the Cougars for reasons stated on a Twitter message.

“Since a young age, I’ve always wanted to play football at BYU,” Tupou wrote. “I would constantly tell my parents and my siblings, ‘BYU is my future.’”

Tupou went on to state that BYU was always on the top of his list despite the other offers that came his way.

“My coaches would ask me what college I was looking to go to, I would respond the usual, ‘BYU,’” Tupou wrote. “I would like to thank my Heavenly Father for allowing me to make it this far, my family, coaches and friends for being there for me since the beginning.”
