Mark Pope’s BYU basketball program has added a versatile guard to its lineup for next year, as former Milwaukee guard Te’Jon Lucas announced Wednesday he will play for the Cougars.
He will be a sixth-year senior in the 2021-22 college basketball season.
Lucas also had Utah, Nevada, DePaul and New Mexico State among his final five schools for his services.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Lucas played the past two seasons for Milwaukee of the Horizon League, averaging 14.7 points, 5.4 assists, 4.4 rebounds and 1.6 steals while starting every game he played for the Panthers.
Lucas was named to the All-Horizon League third team last season — he earned second-team All-Horizon honors the previous year — and his 5.8 assists average tied for 14th nationally.
He originally started his college career at the Big Ten’s Illinois, starting 34 games over two seasons and averaging 5.2 points and 3.2 assists for the Illini. He then transferred to Milwaukee, sitting out the 2018-19 season due to NCAA transfer rules.
Lucas adds some crucial experience at guard for the Cougars, who’ve had four players enter the transfer portal this offseason. Brandon Averette, who started at guard alongside Alex Barcello last season, has joined a semi-pro league, while there is still no news whether Barcello will return next season to take advantage of the free year of eligibility granted by the NCAA due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
