“WandaVision” creator Jac Schaeffer and director Matt Shakman revealed why Doctor Strange didn’t appear in the recent Disney+ show.

What’s going on?

Schaeffer and Shakman recently told Yahoo! Entertainment they considered bringing in Doctor Strange because of the magical connections — and since “WandaVision” will connect with “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.” But they ultimately chose not to do so.

  • “We definitely thought about that idea, because he is a very important person in this world in terms of magic,” Shakman said.

A Doctor Strange cameo “wasn’t necessary to the story we were telling,” he said.

  • Schaffer added: “We knew that our show would feed into ‘Multiverse of Madness’, but that’s just not where we landed.”

More reasons

In a recent interview with Deadline, Schaeffer said there was a chance Doctor Strange could show up in “WandaVision” — but things didn’t happen behind the scenes to make it work.

  • “I heart Doctor Strange just like anybody,” she told Deadline. “Yeah, it’s one of those things, that’s how the chips fell, that’s how the cookie crumbled, is what I will say, but I look forward to seeing him on screen with Wanda in ‘Doctor Strange 2.’”
