New reports suggest Gina Carano will no longer appear in an upcoming episode of National Geographic’s “Running Wild with Bear Gryllis.”
What’s going on?
Per CinemaBlend, Carano was set to show up on a new episode of the show, which currently airs on National Geographic and Disney+. The episode would have shown the two visit the Dolomites mountain range in Italy.
- However, a recent release about the next season of the show — which was first reported by TV Maze — does not include an episode with Carano.
ComicBook.com reports the upcoming season will include stars such as “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” star Anthony Mackie, “The Office” legend Rainn Wilson and racing car legend Danica Patrick, among several others.
- Carano reportedly tweeted about filming the episode, too, according to ComicBook.com. This makes her absence all the more confusing.
Context
Carano’s absence from the show isn’t too surprising since the actress was recent fired from Lucasfilm, which is owned by Disney. Lucasfilm cut ties with Carano after she posted an Instagram story with an image that commented on Jewish people being attacked in the streets during the Nazi Germany era and comparing it to how modern Americans are treated for their political beliefs, as I wrote about for the Deseret News.
- Lucasfilm released a statement (via i09) that explained the decision to release her: “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”
