SALT LAKE CITY — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has reopened 34 temples for husband-wife marriages known as sealings, and it will reopen another 18 for that single ordinance on May 25.
The limited openings for 52 temples come as pandemic restrictions ease and represent some of the first signs of church gatherings, albeit small ones with limited participants.
The church announced May 7 it would reopen temples in a four-phase process beginning with the sealing ordinance for a man and woman. Phase 2 is a return to the performance of all living ordinances, by appointment. Phase 3 opens a temple for all ordinances, by appointment, though with some possible restrictions on proxy work. Phase 4 is a return to full operation.
The first 17 temples reopened on May 11. A second set of 17 temples open today.
The 18 temples to open on May 25 are in Canada, Finland and the United States. The list of those temples is below:
