The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced that two temples — one in the United States and the other in Canada — will break ground for construction this August.

The two temples — the Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Victoria, British Columbia, temples — are the second announced Latter-day Saint temples for their respective states and provinces and will officially begin construction with groundbreaking ceremonies held Saturday, Aug. 22.

The Tulsa Oklahoma Temple’s groundbreaking ceremony will be presided over by Elder Pedro X. Larreal of the church’s United States Southwest Area presidency.

Plans to build the Tulsa temple as a single-story structure of approximately 29,600 square feet will then proceed at the 25.7-acre site located in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the Victoria British Columbia Temple will be presided over by Elder James E. Evanson of the church’s Canada Area presidency.

A site map and exterior rendering of the Victoria British Columbia Temple were also released alongside the temple’s groundbreaking date.

Per the First Presidency’s announcement, the Victoria temple will be built on a 4.7-acre site located along Mantle Heights Road in Langford, British Columbia, Canada.

It will be a single-story structure of approximately 11,400 square feet and will be accompanied by an onsite patron waiting area.

The Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Victoria, British Columbia, temples were first announced in 2023 and 2024, respectively.

The Tulsa Oklahoma Temple will help serve the state’s nearly 54,000 Latter-day Saints, while the Victoria temple will join others in serving Canada’s more than 211,000 Latter-day Saints.
