The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced milestone dates for two future temples nearly halfway across the world from each other.

The two temples — located in Vienna, Austria, and Pago Pago, American Samoa — are the first announced Latter-day Saint temples in their respective nations and territories and will reach their separate milestone dates this fall.

The Vienna Austria Temple, first announced in 2021, will begin construction with a groundbreaking ceremony held Saturday, Oct. 17. Elder Michael Cziesla of the Europe Central Area presidency will preside at the ceremony.

Plans for the Vienna temple call for a multistory structure of approximately 15,300 square feet. The temple will be built on a 0.80-acre site at Silbergasse 2 in Vienna, Austria

The nearly completed Pago Pago American Samoa Temple will be dedicated Sunday, Dec. 13, by Elder Quentin L. Cook of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

Preceding the island temple’s dedication, the temple will welcome visitors for a free open house that will run every Monday through Saturday from Nov. 4 to Nov. 21.
