It’s an age-old debate: Is a hot dog a sandwich?
Both sides of the debate have their own arguments. Some argue that, by definition of a sandwich, it counts. The Merriam-Webster definition states a sandwich is “two or more slices of bread or a split roll having a filling in between.” Since a hot dog is a split roll, by this definition, it’s a sandwich.
Others say a hot dog is not a sandwich and is in a league of its own. They argue that a sandwich typically has two distinct pieces of bread and the orientation of a hot dog doesn’t match that of a sandwich — if you were to order a “beef sausage sandwich” from a restaurant, it would be shocking to receive a classic hot dog.

For Hot Dog Day, Wienerschnitzel customers will be able to receive four chili dogs for just $4. The offer is available every Wednesday in July.
