SALT LAKE CITY — For the second consecutive year, the Utah State Aggies will need to find a new offensive coordinator.

On Friday, Yahoo’s Pete Thamel reported that the Minnesota Golden Gophers were set to hire Mike Sanford Jr. to the same post, and the program officially announced the hire a few hours later.

Sanford Jr. will also be the Golden Gophers’ quarterbacks coach after they went 11-2 this season and beat the Auburn Tigers in the Outback Bowl.

The 37-year-old has made numerous stops around the country, and was the head coach at Western Kentucky before joining the Aggies prior to the 2019 campaign under returning head coach Gary Andersen.

David Yost left Logan after a wildly successful stint as offensive coordinator to join former Utah State head coach Matt Wells on the staff at Texas Tech.

Whomever the Aggies hire to replace Sanford Jr. will lead an offense in 2020 that will lose star quarterback Jordan Love, leading rusher Gerold Bright and leading receiver Siaosi Mariner.
