After going 1-11 in Region 7 play during their opening season, Mountain Ridge has already picked up a win this year behind a thrilling 53-52 upset over the Pioneers. The game was close throughout and Tyson Hawkins guided a late run to try and help Lehi escape with a victory, but it wasn’t enough as a balanced Sentinels attack led to a big win. The 3-point shot also proved to be key as Mountain Ridge’s two extra shots from behind the arc proved to be the difference maker in the one-point win. The Sentinels continue their four-game homestand by hosting Orem, Murray, and then the top ranked Thunderbirds from Timpview.

The Warriors had a nine-point lead heading into the final period and were able to grow that lead to a dozen with just under five minutes to go, but the Knights charged back and had a chance to tie at the buzzer. Sam Sivulich’s—who had 15 points and two triples—game tying three fell just short as Weber held on for a 51-48 victory.

The Warriors did a good job of getting into the paint and letting their offense play inside out. They have been without their starting point guard who has an ankle injury and this win broke a five-game losing streak. They will look to keep their momentum moving forward with a road game at Layton next week.

When asked about the game, coach Cosby was just excited to be playing, he expressed.

“We are just thankful to be playing basketball. Every day is a new challenge and hopefully this win will propel us forward.”
