BYU has made its first roster move of 2025.

The Cougars have gained a transfer commitment from former Utah State linebacker Max Alford, he announced Wednesday via social media.

Alford dealt with injuries that kept him sidelined for the majority of the past two seasons, but he proved promising as a freshman in 2022, recording 40 total tackles in 278 snaps of action.

A 3-star prospect out of Park City, Alford earned First Team 4A All-State honors as a junior in 2020 at running back after rushing for 1,020 yards and seven touchdowns along with two additional receiving scores.

The 6-foot-1, 245-pound Alford joins a talented BYU linebacker corps that includes standouts Isaiah Glasker, Jack Kelly and Harrison Taggart.

He won’t start for the Cougars in 2025, but with three seasons of eligibility remaining, Alford is poised to provide valuable, immediate depth and further develop into a key contributor at linebacker down the road.
