Zac Blair shot a 2-over par 72 but moved up from tied for 24th to tied for 17th on moving day at the U.S. Open Championship at Shinnecock Hills in New York Saturday.

Blair, a former BYU golfer and current Orem resident who grew up in Ogden, made bogeys on Nos. 1, 10 and 15 while making a birdie on the par-5 No. 16.

His round placed him among the most consistent players after 54 holes, a field that has five players under par and another four who are even par after Saturday’s play.

Wyndham Clark shot a 1-under par 69 to stay ahead of the field at 8-under par, seven strokes ahead of four players tied at 1-under, including Scottie Scheffler, Sahith Theegala, Tom Kim and Sam Stevens.

Blair, who is not known for his length off the tee, does possess a competitive short game, and his consistent ball-striking has served him well throughout his career.
