Here’s a look at some headliner performances from Week 2. Also check out the Deseret News’ complete sortable leaders feature for offense, defense and special teams.
Class 6A
- Carter Payne, Weber — Completed 24 of 32 passes for 310 yards and four touchdowns, including the game-winning TD pass with 2:44 remaining to lead the Warriors to the wild 38-31 win over Brighton.
- Tytan DeJong, Mountain Ridge — Was a ball hawk in Mountain Ridge’s 42-0 win over Lehi as he caught 12 passes from QB Jaxon Hunt for 118 yards and a touchdown.
- Carter Hughes, Layton — Caught seven passes for 96 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead Layton to the 30-0 win over Northridge.
- Ethan Hill, Copper Hills — Completed all nine of his passes for 143 yards and five touchdowns and also rushed for another TD in Copper Hills’ first win over West Jordan since 2013.
Class 5A
- Alani Latu, Hillcrest — Made the most of his 10 carries as he rushed the ball for 244 yards for four touchdowns as the Huskies eased past Deer Creek for the 53-7 win.
- Austin Cannon, Viewmont — Strong game defensively with two interceptions, and then offensively had three receptions for 56 yards and two TDS as the Vikings rolled to the 50-0 win over Cyprus.
- Lester Falatea, West — Returned a punt for a touchdown and also returned two interceptions for TDs as West rolled to the 60-0 win over East in the oldest rivalry in the state.
- James Buck, Spanish Fork — Strong performance on the ground as he carried the ball 19 times for 145 yards and four touchdowns, including the game-winning TD midway through the fourth quarter.
- Judd Howells, Box Elder — Workhorse back carried the ball 26 times for 182 yards and a touchdown, while also catching another TD in 50-34 win over Bear River in the Golden Spike rivalry game.
Class 4A
- Brady Muir, Mountain Crest — Completed 24 of 31 passes for 367 yards and four touchdowns as the Mustangs jumped all over Wasatch for the 46-15 victory.
- Titan Borchardt, Hurricane — Carried the ball 10 times for 96 yards and three touchdowns as Hurricane traveled to Moapa Valley, Nev. and earned the 49-20 win.
- Noah Fiefia, Ridgeline — Rushed for 213 yards and four TDs in leading Ridgeline to the comfortable 31-9 win over Park City.
- Tanoai Andresen, Crimson Cliffs — Had another big game offensively in Crimson Cliffs’ 31-13 win over Provo as he threw for 334 yards and three TDs while also rushing for 65 more yards.
Class 3A
- Owen Gilson, Morgan — Completed 19 of 26 passes for 277 yards and four TDs and also ran for 102 yards in leading Morgan to the resounding 47-0 win over Sky View.
- Jase Pingree, Logan — Hauled in nine catches for 228 yards and two touchdowns in leading the Grizzlies to the easy 49-20 victory at Preston, Idaho.
- Trever Christensen, Manti — Returned an interception 68 yards for a TD and then also caught a pair of touchdown passes to lead Manti past Juan Diego 54-7.
Class 2A
- Brody Larsen, South Summit — Had a huge game on the ground rushing for 215 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries in leading South Summit past North Summit 45-14.
- Brigg Palmer, San Juan — Impacted both sides of the ball in San Juan’s 52-22 win over Beaver as he rushed for 261 yards and five TDs and then defensively added nine tackles.
Class 1A
- Degan Swapp, Kanab — Tallied three TDs (two rushing, one receiving) as the Cowboys eased to the 52-0 win over North Sevier.
- Wilkes Weston, Rich — Rushed for 195 yards and three touchdowns and then passed for 212 yards and two more scores as Rich rolled past Milford 65-19 in a rematch of last year’s 8-player state championship.
