Former Vice President Joe Biden has picked California Sen. Kamala Harris to be his vice presidential running mate Tuesday following months of speculation.
Biden announced the decision in a tweet.
“I have the great honor to announce that I’ve picked @KamalaHarris — a fearless fighter for the little guy, and one of the country’s finest public servants — as my running mate,” he wrote.
Harris becomes the first Black woman on a major party ticket.
“Back when Kamala was attorney general (in California) she worked closely with Beau. I watched as they took on the big banks, lifted up working people, and protected women and kids from abuse. I was proud then, and I’m proud now to have her as my partner in this campaign.”
Social media reacted to the news, which sets up the complete ticket for the Democratic Party in the 2020 election.
