Chris Young will soon host an indoor country and western concert in South Dakota, The Daily Beast reports.
Sanford Health of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, has been working with South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem to set up the show.
- There is no face mask requirement for the event yet.
- The show has not indicated whether it will have social distancing.
- The concert is expected to draw around 5,000 people, The Daily Beast reports.
What you need to know:
South Dakota hosted its state fair earlier in September without a requirement for people to wear masks, as I wrote for Deseret.com.
South Dakota previously hosted the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, too. Experts said the impact was “substantial” and there were nearly 266,000 cases linked to the event, according to a report from San Diego State University’s Center for Health Economics & Policy Studies
Noem has been speaking out against expert advice for COVID-19. She discouraged schools from requiring masks for students, promoting hand-washing instead. She also has said people should not always listen to “elite class of so-called experts,” who impact liberty.
Sanford Health advises people to wear masks in everyday life in order to stay safe:
- “If you have to go to the grocery store, pharmacy or anywhere else where social distancing is tough, the CDC now recommends wearing a mask,” the Sanford Health website notes. “They’re now recommended for anyone in public settings where staying 6 feet away from others is more difficult, especially where significant community spread is occurring.”
