Brian Laundrie is dead, according the FBI.
The FBI in Denver said Thursday that a comparison of dental records confirmed that the human remains found on Wednesday are those of Brian Laundrie.
Officials found the remains Wednesday at the T. Mabry Carlton Jr. Memorial Reserve and Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park.
Laundrie was a person of interest in the murder of Gabby Petito. Both Laundrie and Petito went on a cross-country road trip this summer, traveling through Utah, Wyoming and Idaho, among other locations. But only Laundrie returned home to Florida on Sept. 1, driving Petito’s van.
Petito was reported missing 10 days later on Sept. 11 by her family.
Soon after, Laundrie went missing. He allegedly left his home on Monday, Sept. 13, and was reported missing on Friday, Sept. 17. He was believed to have gone to the Carlton Reserve, which is near his home in Florida.
Petito’s remains were found on Sunday, Sept. 19, on the outskirts of a Wyoming national park. She was later confirmed to have died by strangulation.
It’s unclear what will happen next in the case as police continue their investigation.
