VINEYARD — A man was shot and killed Tuesday evening in a home invasion at a Vineyard apartment complex.

Sgt. Spencer Cannon, public information officer for Utah County Sheriff’s Office, said dispatchers received a 911 call at about 6:20 p.m. reporting a home invasion in progress at the Concord at Geneva apartments in Vineyard, 125 N. Mill Road, where a man was shot.

The man died on scene. Police did not specify whether the man killed was a suspect in the home invasion or had been a victim in the apartment.

Cannon said detectives expected to continue working on the investigation until late Wednesday morning. No further information will be released until at least then, including the name of the man who was killed, he said.

“We’ve got all of our detectives on board who are chasing down leads or information — anything that we might have that can tell us what connection there might be if any between the people trying to break in and the person in the apartment,” Cannon said.

Several suspects were taken into custody in Sandy and at the scene in Vineyard, according to Cannon.
