LAYTON — A Layton man was arrested Sunday after telling officers he killed a woman he had just met online, police said.

At 3:19 a.m., Ethan Hunsaker, 24, called dispatch “reporting having killed a person inside his residence” in the area of 1319 N. Reid Avenue, according to Layton police.

“Hunsaker stated to dispatch he ‘did not know’ the person he had just killed, but had met the victim on an application called Tinder,” police wrote in an affidavit filed in support of his arrest.

During the call, Hunsaker made suicidal statements to dispatchers and described a knife he owned, police said.

When officers went to the home, Hunsaker “continued to tell officers to shoot him,” according to the affidavit. Police saw the woman lying on the floor with multiple stab wounds to her torso. A knife was found near her body.

Efforts to revive the woman were unsuccessful, and she was pronounced dead on scene, according to the statement. Her name was not immediately released. She was 25.

Hunsaker was arrested and booked into Davis County Jail without incident for investigation of murder.

Police said Hunsaker described picking the woman up and visiting a bar with her before they went to his home and had sex. He told police the woman’s first name but said he didn’t know her last name.

Hunsaker told police he woke up with the woman laying on his arm “as they were cuddling or spooning” when he began choking her. The woman tried to pull his arms away from her neck, police said. Hunsaker left to get a pocket knife from his kitchen, according to the affidavit.

The woman was still laying on the bedroom floor when police said Hunsaker began stabbing her with the knife multiple times on her chest, side and back.

“Ethan stated he stabbed (the woman) more than five times, but no more than 10 times. Ethan stated he watched (the woman) bleed through the stab wounds. (The woman) was left laying on her stomach where she died in the bedroom,” according to the affidavit.
