LIBERTY, Weber County — An 8-year-old girl had a close call Sunday when she was grazed in the neck by a ricocheting bullet while shooting with her family at a gun range, authorities said.

The incident occurred early afternoon at the Avon Gun Range in Liberty, Weber County. The girl was treated on scene by first responders for a laceration, and then driven by her father to be checked at a clinic, Weber County Sheriff’s Lt. Cortney Ryan said.

Ryan described the situation as a “freak accident” as the family took precautions, and the girl was standing well behind her father when he was firing.

“Sounds like she’s going to be OK and (has) just very minor injuries,” Ryan said.
