A man wanted for questioning in connection with a murder investigation in Las Vegas has been arrested in Salt Lake City.
Aaron Mateo Guerrero, 18, was arrested Tuesday for allegedly being a fugitive.
Guerrero was spotted by Utah Transit Authority police officers on a TRAX train at the station at 900 South and 200 West, according to a police affidavit.
“Guerrero was asked to show officers proof of fare to ride the train,” the affidavit states. When he admitted he did not have a ticket, the officers asked for his identification.
Guerrero provided police with his real identification card, which they then used for a quick background check and discovered he had “a full extradition warrant out of Las Vegas, Nevada, for the offense of homicide,” according to the affidavit.
“Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirmed Aaron Guerrero is a suspect in an ongoing homicide investigation that occurred on April 9, 2021, in their jurisdiction, and he had fled Nevada to avoid apprehension,” the affidavit continued.
Guerrero will now be held in the Salt Lake County Jail while the process of extraditing him back to Las Vegas is started.
