Six years ago, playwright Mahonri Stewart's, "Farewell to Eden" won national awards when Utah Valley University (Utah Valley State College, at the time) took the production to the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival competition.
Now, the newly minted Zion Theatre Company is producing a revival.
The new theater company, dedicated to works that "strive to make human beings better socially, intellectually and spiritually; based on the quality and morality of the work."
Stewart's work is the first production for the company. The play tells the story of Georgiana Highett and her siblings, living in England in 1840. Her world is safe and secure, until two men enter her life — her childhood friend and a mystery man.
The show stars Jamie Denison, William Nielson McCallister, Derrick Legler, Rebecca Minson and Amos Omer.
"Farewell to Eden" runs Jan. 15-25 at the Provo Theatre, 100 N. 105 East, Provo. Shows are Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays, 7:30 p.m., with Saturday matinees available. Tickets are $9-$12.
Here are the rest of this week's openings:
