The wait is over.
Lukas Geniusas, the 19-year-old from Russia, was named the winner of the 2010 Gina Bachauer International Artists Piano Competition Thursday night.
His performance of Rachmaninoff's Concerto No. 3 in D Minor, op. 30, earned him the No. 1 spot.
Here is a list of how the other five placed and the pieces they performed:
Second place — Serhiy Salov, 31, Ukraine, Brahms Concerto No. 2 in B-flat Major, op. 83
Third place — Dmitri Levkovich, 31, Ukraine, Rachmaninoff's Concerto No. 2 in C Minor, op. 18
Fourth place — Yunjie Chen, 29, China, Chopin's Concerto No. 1 in E Minor, op. 11
Fifth place — Kotaro Fukuma, 27, Japan, Schumann Concerto in A Minor, op. 54
Sixth place — Zhang Zuo, 21, China, Rachmaninoff's Concerto No. 2 in C Minor, op. 18
The finals were in Abravanel Hall held Wednesday and Thursday, and all the competitors performed with the Utah Symphony, conducted by Lawrence Leighton Smith,
Geniusas performed last and immediately following his number, the nine-member international jury, headed by Nelita True, deliberated for 30 minutes before emerging and naming Geniusas as the overall winner.
The awards were handed out by True.
As first place winner, Geniusas received $30,000, a commemorative gold medal, engagements to perform with the Utah Symphony and an opportunity to record a CD of solo works of his choice.
Salov received $15,000 and a silver medal and engagements to perform with the Utah Symphony and a chance to record a CD of solo works.
Levkovich, recipient of the Joanne Baker Memorial Third Prize, was awarded $10,000, a commemorative bronze medal, concert engagements and the chance to record a solo piano CD.
Chen took home $8,000 and a chance to record a solo piano CD.
Fukuma won $7,000 and a chance to record a CD.
As the winner of the Dr. Stanley B. Kimball Memorial Sixth Prize, Zuo received $6,000 and a chance to record a CD.
Geniusas was also awarded the bonus $500 audience award for being the competitor the audience appreciated the most.
The six were announced as the finalists on Saturday, June 26, after a series of intense preliminary rounds held at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center.
