3A Playoffs
Morgan 8, North Sanpete 0
It was a fairly simple win for No. 4 Morgan as the Trojans dispatched No. 13 North Sanpete, 8-0. Lacie Poll scored a hat trick for Morgan and Kaydence Wardell added another two to lead the attack. Macie Burton had a team-high two assists, and Miya Turner recorded the shutout. The Trojans will remain at home for the quarterfinals as they host No. 5 Delta on Saturday.
Juan Diego 8, Union 1
No. 6 Juan Diego jumped on top of No. 11 Union in a hurry and ran away with a playoff win in an 8-1 rout in the 3A second round. Addison Pettit led all scorers with a hat trick as the Soaring Eagles became the fourth team of the second round to score eight or more goals. The Soaring Eagle will move on the the quarterfinals and hit the road to take on Manti this Saturday.
Manti 6, Grantsville 1
No. 3 Manti looked the part of Region 12’s second-place team as the Templars built a 2-0 halftime lead on No. 14 Grantsville and waltzed to the 6-1 victory. Manti sophomore Taylie Mickelson recorded a hat trick (three goals) for the fourth time this season, while Baylee Lowder scored the Cowboys’ only goal. The Templars will move on to face the winner of Union/Diego in the quarterfinals this Saturday.
Canyon View 9, South Summit 0
No. 1 Canyon View made quick work of No. 16 South Summit, scoring seven goals in the first half en route to a 9-0 shutout victory, the 10th season shutout recorded by the Falcons. Bethanee Vargas, Erin Hallows and Hadlee Farrow each recorded a hat trick of three goals, while Gracie Burt collected the shutout in goal. The Falcons will move on to the quarterfinals to host No. 8 Judge Memorial on Saturday.
Judge Memorial 8, Richfield 0
No. 8 vs No. 9 matchups don’t usually end this lopsided, but No. 8 Judge Memorial was clearly the better team on Wednesday as the Bulldogs stormed past No. 9 Richfield in the 3A second round, 8-0. The Bulldogs had a 5-0 lead at halftime, and multiple Judge players scored two goals each while Lorraine Hyngstrom recorded the shutout. Judge Memorial will face the toughest test with a road quarterfinal matchup at No. 1 Canyon View on Saturday.
Delta 4, Juab 0
No. 5 Delta got easily past No. 12 Juab in the second round of the 3A state championship tournament, shutting out the Wasps, 4-0. Delta put three goals on Juab in the second half as Paisley Hunt led with two goals. Caitlin Allred netted a hat trick of a different kind with three assists. The Rabbits will move on to the quarterfinals to face No. 4 Morgan on the road on Saturday.
Ogden 7, Providence Hall 0
No. 2 Ogden pulled away in the second half with five goals in a 7-0 shutout win over No. 15 Providence Hall as 2022’s girls soccer MVP Nevaeah Peregrina scored a hat trick to lead all scorers. Bella Gray had three assists for the Tigers, who will stay at home in the quarterfinals to take on No. 7 Carbon on Saturday.
Carbon 2, Ben Lomond 1
In one of the only close contests of the 3A second round, No. 7 Carbon edged out No. 10 Ben Lomond, 2-1, as Bailey Johnson scored the go-ahead goal in the second half. Johnson engineered the Dinos’ winning effort with a goal and an assist. The Dinos moved on to the quarterfinals and will head on the road to take on No. 2 Ogden on Saturday.
2A Playoffs
Rowland Hall 8, APA West Valley 0
No. 3 seed Rowland Hall cruised to victory over No. 14 seed APA West Valley thanks to seven first half goals. Halle Baughman, Paige Connery, and Zakrie Smith all added two goals to the Rowland Hall scoring torrent. Quinn Orgain was in goal for the shutout behind the stout defense from the Winged Lions. Rowland Hall advances to face No. 6 seed Maeser Prep in the 2A quarterfinals.
Maeser Prep 6, North Summit 0
No. 6 seed Maeser Prep relied on a strong second half to beat No. 11 seed North Summit to advance to the 2A quarterfinals. Vicki Memmott scored a hat trick for the Lions to lead the way. Maeser will play against No. 3 seed Rowland Hall in the next round.
Grand 2, Draper APA 1
No. 8 seed Grand defeated No. 9 seed Draper APA in a closely fought battle for a spot in the 2A quarterfinals. Key goals from Hannah Fisher and Mia McKay secured the victory for the Red Devils. The Grand defense was able to hold Draper APA to only one goal and will advance to face top-seeded Parowan in the second round.
Millard 8, American Leadership 0
No. 4 seed Millard took care of business against No. 13 seed American Leadership to advance to the 2A quarterfinals. Millard jumped out to an early lead, finding the back of the net seven times in the first half. Sydney Braman, Carlie Dearden, and Kadi Dearden each contributed two goals to the Eagles’ total of eight. Millard will face No. 5 seed St. Joseph in the next round.
St. Joseph 14, South Sevier 0
No. 5 seed St. Joseph dominated No. 12 seed South Sevier to advance to the 2A quarterfinals. The Jayhawks tacked on 10 first half goals, adding four more in the second half to set up a showdown with No. 4 seed Millard. Jaci Coles and Sofia Evans both scored hat tricks for St. Joseph, while Abigail Gough added a staggering five goals in the victory.
Waterford 8, San Juan 0
No. 2 seed Waterford dominated No. 15 seed San Juan to advance to the 2A quarterfinals. Waterford scored 8 goals, from 6 different scorers. Grace Morris and Milana Massinople each notched a brace for the Ravens and Halee Hasebi was in goal for the shutout. Waterford will face No. 7 seed American Heritage in the next round.
American Heritage 8, Beaver 2
No. 7 seed American Heritage defeated No. 10 seed Beaver 8-2 to advance to the 2A quarterfinals. The Patriots had a two goal lead at halftime and their offense picked up steam in the second half to cruise to victory. Portia Boggess scored a brace, Paisley Gardner added a goal and three assists, and the American Heritage defense was able to slow down the Beavers to secure the victory. American Heritage will face off against No. 2 seed Waterford in the next round.
